LEAD PASTOR
Pastor Eric and his wife Jennifer have had the privilege of serving the community of El Cajon, for more than 25 years. Originally as the worship arts pastor, then as the youth pastor and currently as the lead pastor, they have loved, prayed, served and lived in this community with intentionality and care. Their heart and commitment to the community of East County evidenced by their role in Founding Hope City Church and their commitment bringing hope to the world one person at a time not to mention the fact that they know the names of most of the checkers at the grocery stores and the staff of long time local restaurants and coffee shops, or that people who grew up in their youth groups will come and visit knowing that the Rountree family will be at church on Sunday serving as they have been for all these years. When the Rountrees are not working hard you can find them trying out new coffee shops or restaurants, taking in a movie, or hanging out with friends. If you haven't already, please come and introduce yourself!!
Our Essential Doctrine:
The Bible Is God’s Word
The Bible isn’t just an old book — it’s the living, breathing Word of God. It tells the big story of who God is and how He’s been at work through history, inviting us to know Him personally. It’s our foundation for faith, our guide for life, and the truth we build everything else on.
📖 2 Timothy 3:16–17; Psalm 119:105; Hebrews 4:12
God Is Three-in-One
There is one true God who exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He’s not three gods — He’s one God expressed in three persons, each working in perfect unity and love. This is a mystery, but it’s also the beauty of God's nature: relational, loving, and complete.
📖 Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Deuteronomy 6:4
Jesus Is God and Savior
Jesus is more than a teacher or prophet — He is God in the flesh. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose from the dead, and now reigns as King. He’s our Savior, our hope, and the only way to true life.
📖 John 1:1,14; Colossians 2:9; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
We Are Broken by Sin — Jesus Makes Us Whole
We were created for relationship with God, but sin broke that connection. Every one of us has fallen short — it’s not just about what we’ve done, but about our need for rescue. Jesus came to restore what was broken and bring us back to life.
📖 Romans 3:23; Isaiah 53:6; Genesis 3:6
Jesus Saves Us
Salvation isn’t something we earn — it’s a gift we receive. Through Jesus, we’re forgiven, made new, and set free. When we put our trust in Him, we begin a new life that will last forever.
📖 Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 10:9; John 3:16
Baptism & Communion Matter
Jesus gave us two sacred practices to celebrate our faith: baptism and communion. Baptism is a public declaration that we belong to Him. Communion is a reminder of His sacrifice and a moment to pause, reflect, and remember His love.
📖 Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:4; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26
The Holy Spirit Empowers Us
God doesn’t just call us to live for Him — He gives us His Spirit to live in us. The Holy Spirit fills us with power, courage, and gifts to share Jesus with the world. His presence changes everything.
📖 Acts 1:8; Acts 2:4; Luke 11:13
Speaking in Tongues Is the Outward Sign of an Inward Work of the Holy Spirit
When the Holy Spirit fills a believer, the Bible shows us that speaking in tongues is the first outward sign. It’s a spiritual language given by God — not for show, but for strength, prayer, and connection. It points to a deeper work God is doing inside us.
📖 Acts 2:4; Acts 10:44–46; 1 Corinthians 14:4
We’re Becoming More Like Jesus
Following Jesus is a journey, not a one-time moment. Day by day, we grow, change, and become more like Him. God’s Spirit helps us turn from sin and live a life that reflects His love and truth.
📖 Romans 12:2; 1 Peter 1:16; 2 Corinthians 3:18
The Church Is God’s Team on Earth
Church isn’t just a building — it’s a family of people on mission together. We worship, learn, serve, and share the hope of Jesus with the world. Every believer belongs, and every believer has a role to play.
📖 Acts 2:42–47; 1 Corinthians 12:27; Hebrews 10:24–25
Everyone Has a Part to Play
God gives each of us unique gifts and callings. Whether you preach, serve, teach, or care for others — your role matters. Ministry isn’t just for pastors; it’s for every follower of Jesus.
📖 Ephesians 4:11–12; Romans 12:4–8; 1 Peter 4:10
God Still Heals
We believe Jesus still heals — physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Healing isn’t just something He did in the past; it’s part of His heart for people today. We pray boldly, trust fully, and celebrate every story of restoration.
📖 Isaiah 53:5; James 5:14–15; Matthew 8:16–17
Jesus Is Coming Back
One day, Jesus will return — not as a baby in a manger, but as King and Savior. This is our blessed hope, and it shapes how we live today. We’re not waiting with fear, but with faith and excitement.
📖 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; Titus 2:13; John 14:3
Jesus Will Reign on Earth
After His return, Jesus will rule the world with justice and peace for 1,000 years. This Millennial Reign is part of God’s plan to fully restore creation. We look forward to that day with expectation and awe.
📖 Revelation 20:4–6; Isaiah 9:6–7; Zechariah 14:9
There Will Be a Final Judgment
At the end of time, everyone will stand before God. Those who’ve trusted in Jesus will live with Him forever, and those who’ve rejected Him will face eternal separation. God’s justice is real — but so is His mercy.
📖 Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:11–15; Matthew 25:31–46
A New Beginning Is Coming
God is making everything new. One day, He will create a new heaven and a new earth where there’s no more pain, no more death, and no more separation. We’ll be with Him forever — whole, healed, and home.
📖 Revelation 21:1–5; 2 Peter 3:13; Isaiah 65:17
FOLLOW
Baptism
Baptism is your public decision to follow Christ. We invite everyone who has decided to follow Jesus to stand in the water with us and declare that Jesus is Lord and you are all in!
At Hope City Church, we designate specific Sundays for baptism and encourage you to invite your family and friends to witness this pivotal moment in your walk with Christ.
